Service with a Smile!

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

After enjoying an early movie with Ms. Niteowl, we made arrangements to meet up with some close friends for drinks. The destination was a local bistro nearby. The restaurant is well manicured and tasteful with a beautiful bar/lounge area separated from the main dining room. We arrive first, taking seats at the bar which is buzzing with activity. The many tables and booths are also filled with folks celebrating a night out as well as a few couples enjoying each others company.

A young woman bartender greets us with a big smile and takes our order. Her name is Leah. She has waited on us before. As she brings our drinks Leah asks how we are and what’s new. We catch up for just a moment as she is busy with a packed house. Our friends arrive a short time later and are introduced to Leah who again, greets them with a big smile and takes their order. Our friends comment on Leah’s smile and the pleasant way with which she handles other the patrons. At one point during the night, one of our friends pays Leah a compliment which she is embarrassed to accept but again smiles and says thank you.

All of us enjoyed a great night of catching up and curing all the ills of the world! Credit to Leah for making it such an enjoyable evening for our group!

Unfortunately we have all experienced a rude or inept waiter/server or bartender. It happens. That said, the effect of “Service with a smile” is very much underrated! It’s as important as the quality of food or the aesthetics of a venue! It’s what keeps people coming back!

“Frown and you frown alone…Smile and the whole world will smile back”!

Enjoy the night,

Chester Niteowl
